Victoria "Vicki" Bergemann Obituary

Victoria J. Bergemann born March 31st, 1949 passed into eternal life on December 12th, 2021.

Vicki was born to life to Paul A. and Marye J. (Henke) Szczublewski on the family farm in the Town of Rose.  She was the best mom to Amie (Paul) Schneider, a loved sister to her siblings, Harold (Christine) Szczublewski, Rosemary Szczublewski, Peter (Deborah) Szczublewski, Daniel Szczublewski, Martha Szczublewski, Paul (Lori) Szczublewski, Christopher (Theresa) Szczublewski, Suzanne Szczublewski, and Rosemary Kieper.  She was a loving Aunt to nephews Nathaniel, Michael, Jason, Curtis, Tim and Tony and nieces Lynn, Jessica, Nichole, Virginia, Tracy, Tina and Terrie.  She also was a treasured cousin to a vast extended family.

Vicki was preceded in death and reunited in eternal life with her parents, Paul and Marye, brother Danny, infant sister Suzanne, and sisters-in-law Dianne and Dawn.

Vicki graduated from Wild Rose High School in 1967 and embarked on her military career as a nurse where she proudly served, active duty and reserves, in the United States Air Force for 20 years.   During her career, she served in Texas, Illinois, Germany and Alaska.  She proudly served alongside her brothers and sisters during the Vietnam War and retired as a Master Sergeant.  Vicki was proud to be part of the local American Legion Daniel Dopp post #370 of Wild Rose where she served as Adjutant for 5 years and was still an active member in post activities.

After retiring as a registered nurse, in recent years she, along with Amie and Paul, were able to return to her favorite place her travels took her, Alaska. On this trip, she was able to visit places from her service days and once again enjoyed the beautiful Alaskan nature and picturesque landscapes that she was so fond of.

Vicki had dreamed of participating in the Veterans Old Glory Honor Flight.  On September 15, 2021, Vicki, with Amie by her side, were part of Mission 55 and amongst the 97 veterans across all branches honored that day with a trip to Washington D.C. to visit memorials, share vet and life stories, and make peace.   This day for her was one of her most glorious.   Every location and memorial they visited was amazing.  If you talked to her upon her return, being at Arlington National Cemetery, bearing witness to the changing of the guard, the vastness of the Lincoln Memorial, and of course the Air Force Memorial were her favorites.  She was one of only two female veterans on this trip.  She was overwhelmed and humbled by this experience, and she shined so bright as a United States Veteran.

Through the years, Vicki enjoyed being the family historian.  She researched and documented for many years and found many tidbits and blessings through the family geology journey.  When you needed to know people, dates, and the story behind something, she either knew from memory, had the Ancestry ‘leaves’ to link to, or some random documentation to tell the story. Our family story wrote a new chapter in 2021, when the family tree gained a bonus half-sister Rosemary, two nieces, a nephew, and their families!

In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with family, walking, gardening, and her plants!

Vicki had many accomplishments and gave of herself so willingly to others.  From being a dedicated mom, beloved family member and caregiver to all, to all her years of service or just being that great friend to so many, she will forever be treasured and missed so deeply by us all.

The Funeral Service will be on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 11 a.m., with military honors to follow, at the Maple Crest Funeral Home.  The visitation will be on Friday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

To honor her, the family requests in lieu of flowers that donations are made in her name to the organizations that meant so much to her.
