Steve was ahead of his time in every way. His smile was radiant and wide, genuine and authentic. He was a brilliant man, a world traveler with two master’s degrees and was the VP of International Operations at ETC., in Middleton, WI where he worked for 25 years. He lived an adventurer’s life residing abroad in Germany, travelling and exploring on bike, by foot and every method imaginable. Steve prioritized his family over all else. After careful research and countless all-nighters, he reinvented himself as an entrepreneur when his sons Riley and Anton were young to create a life that celebrated their youth and allowed him to be present. Moving to the lake the family played, laughed and biked, he set early morning water ski courses, traveled endlessly with the boys to lacrosse tournaments, and raised them to be curious, resourceful and respectful. He created his own happiness wherever he went, finding a biking group in Stevens Point where he rarely missed the opportunity to rip the trails with his friends. The family adventured to Utah, Idaho and Upper Michigan for downhill ski trips, went west and east to mountain bike, explored and relaxed in Costa Rica and Mexico. He was an outdoor enthusiast and a dedicated fat tire, mountain and road biker. He lived fully and loved deeply. He was so calm, always quick to smile and laugh, thoughtful and meticulous. He spoke gently and exuded kindness. He was loyal and acted with integrity always. He had so much love and adoration for his wife of 27 years. Steve celebrated Julie, respected her and they spent their time exploring health, wellness, and having deep conversations. He gave endlessly to his family, and he made whoever he spoke to feel like they were the most interesting person in the room. He really listened to people, was incredibly observant and unapologetically authentic. Steve died in his sleep. But make no mistake – Steve lived and loved fully. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Downs, is survived by his wife: Julie (Breuer), sons: Riley and Anton, Mother: Elizabeth "Betty" Downs, brother: Phillip Downs and sister: Ann Marie Downs.
