Richard “Dick” Hobson, age 84, of Waupaca, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 21, 2025. He was born in Waupaca on May 9, 1941 to Walter and Ruth (Hansen) Hobson. On November 8, 1958, he was united in marriage to Patricia Wenzel.
Dick was a 5th generation farmer, raised on the Hobson Dairy Farm that was established in 1852. He grew up working on the farm and continued until the 1980’s when he began a career at the Waupaca Foundry. He worked in maintenance until his retirement in 2008. He was extremely proud of his family and was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa. Dick was quietly influential in so many lives. The man that loaned his equipment. The man that guided generations. The man that stood behind his family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Pat; children: James “Jim” (Colleen) Hobson of Pine River, Juli (Dale Harris) Hobson of Tigerton, Jeri (Barth) Allen of Waupaca and Jon (Sue) Hobson of Waupaca; grandchildren: Jason (Jackie), Molly (Matt), Jammer (Angie), Jenna, Jessica, Jacob and Caleb. Dick is further survived by great grandchildren: Taylor, Nia, Mallory, Nathan, Presley,Isla, Kaylee and AJ; and a sister, Laurie (Mike) Krueger of Waupaca.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Thoma.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 26, 2025 from 9 - 11 a.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home, followed by a gathering at Schueller’s Great Exspechtations. He will be laid to rest at Cedar Lake Cemetery in the Town of Lind.
