John F. Vogt

John F. Vogt, age 72, of Waupaca passed away Friday, June 11, 2021.  He was born in Davenport, IA on November 24, 1948 to Norman and Marjorie (Schmidt) Vogt.

John moved with his parents to Waupaca, WI his senior year and met his wife Nancy (Bonikowske) Vogt on the school bus.  They married on July 26, 1969.

John retired from Waupaca Foundry on October 5, 2004 after 36 years.   He worked in many different departments but spent the majority of his time as a superintendent of the Plant 3 millroom.    For several years early in his career, when he wasn’t working a weekend at the foundry, he helped out a local meat market as a butcher; going to several farms in the area.   John would always joke that his girls would never let him ‘sneak’ out of the house to go butchering without them being ready to jump in the truck but he really did enjoy that time with them.

John loved to fish.   He would often go up North to his cabin with family and friends.  Anyone out in the boat with him knew they would be out there for most of the day; making sure they brought snacks and sunscreen.   

John loved taking his grandkids for gator rides and watching them play in the yard.  He also enjoyed playing cards and listening to classic country music; which would usually be playing in the background with anything that he did.  John looked forward to visits and check-in calls from family and friends and his time spent with his long-time friend Leonard.

John is so loved and will be missed by his wife Nancy, his daughters & sons-in-law Carey & Doug Mai and Sara & Brad Schekirke, grandchildren Lucy and James Schekirke, his sister Yvonne Sue Vogt, his many nieces and nephews and close friends.   John was loyal and always willing to help anyone that called for advice.  He made a lasting impact on many.

He is now with his parents Norman and Marjorie, sister and brother-in-law Sandra & LaVerne Thumann, and brothers Norman (Butch) Vogt and Jim Vogt.  

We will celebrate John’s life from 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Maple Crest Funeral Home.  All are welcome.  
Memorials are appreciated and will be designated for the Herma Heart Institute.  Herma Heart was there for John’s family in 2011 and continues to play an important part in the health of his granddaughter.
