Joan D. (Potts) Attoe

Of Wild Rose, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in the Town of Belmont on September 13, 1939 to Albert and Margaret (Nelson) Potts.  On September 5, 1959 she was united in marriage to Lane Attoe at the Dopp Methodist Church. Together they celebrated over 63 years of marriage and had two children. She will be dearly missed by her husband: Lane and children: Jeffrey Attoe of Wild Rose and his children, Maggie, Dylan (Kelly), Blake (Leanne Elizabeth), Dakotah and Braydon; Jennifer (Brett) Grunwaldt of Green Bay and their children, Bryce and Noah; 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan graduated from Wild Rose High School, later graduating from Green Bay School of Cosmetology. Joan began her professional career as a hairstylist at the Vernae Beauty Salon in Waupaca. She later managed the Wild Rose Beauty Salon. Eventually she established her own business, Jo Laynes Beauty Salon in Wild Rose. She operated this business over 60 years. She loved hairstyling, but she genuinely loved her customers more. They became her lifelong friends.

Joan was a caring and giving person. She loved riding as a guest passenger on Lane’s school bus as they traveled to school sponsored events. She loved to bake, and she made dozens and dozens of cookies, which she lovingly passed out to the kids. Who could ever forget her snicker doodles and peanut butter blossoms.

She retired from her professional career in 2018. Together with Lane they traveled to Hawaii, London and Paris. She loved visiting Branson, MO, where she and Lane would attend numerous theaters, featuring outstanding entertainment. She loved to shop! Oh, how she loved to shop! Some of the places they visited included the Black Hills, Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, and Glacier National Park. Washington DC, Seattle, Philadelphia, and New York were also some of her favorite cities to visit.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home.  The visitation will be on Friday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family extends their everlasting gratitude to the staff of Thedacare Hospice for the compassionate attention she was given by all of the staff.
