Janet Sisul Obituary

Janet Marie (Tschudy) Sisul was born July 8th, 1962, to Albert John Tschudy and Christine Lucille (Thompson) Tschudy in Antigo, WI.  She was the youngest of five children.  She passed away November 17, 2022 in Weyauwega, WI.

In being the youngest with a ten-year age difference between the oldest and her, she was doted upon by her siblings.  It was not unusual to see Janet playing ball with the boys or going with her sisters to numerous places.

Janet attended elementary school in Antigo, WI.  In 1972 her family moved to Hayward, WI where she graduated high school in 1980.  Janet was very competitive and anyone who knew her knew that about her.  In high school she was a star basketball player and golf team member.  While in high school she competed in the News Channel 13 women’s golf tournament in Eau Claire, WI.

Janet graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in May 1986.  Her love of sports continued at the university where she played on the woman’s golf team.  Her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education reflected her love of sports.  The experience she was exposed to while working in the Cath Lab at the University made her decide to become a Cardiovascular Perfusionist at the University of Minnesota graduating in 1992.  In 1996 she achieved the distinction of being certified in the practice of clinical perfusion by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

Janet’s first job as a Cardiovascular Perfusionist was at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa and there she met her husband, Steven Sisul.  They were married on August 13th, 1994, and had two children Jessica, born in Des Moines, IA and Nicole, born in La Crosse, WI.

Janet wanted to be closer to her family in Wisconsin and moved her family from Iowa after obtaining a Perfusionist position at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI in 1998.  She enjoyed her work and her colleagues at the hospital and always loved to challenge people to a game of golf.  Janet enjoyed get-togethers with her family at her parent’s house on Round Lake outside of Hayward, WI.

On April 15th, 2004, Janet suffered a brain aneurysm while performing her job.  She almost recovered from the aneurysm but while a patient in the hospital she fell causing a subdural hematoma further injuring her brain allowing more permanent damage.  Since then, she has required 24-hour total assistance.

After Janet’s initial hospital discharge, she was cared for at Vernon Manor, Viroqua, WI.  Then by Tamla Weibel at her group home in Onalaska, WI for 14 years.  After that the Lori Knapp Group Home Onalaska, WI until April of 2022 when she was admitted to Gundersen Health System La Crosse, WI due to complications of Covid.  She remained at GHS for an extended period until community placement at Crossroads Care Center Weyauwega, WI.

Janet is survived by her husband, Steven Sisul and daughters, Jessica Sisul and Nicole Sisul.  Also, Janet’s mother, Christine Tschudy; Janet’s siblings: Margaret “Margi” (Kenneth) Stauss, Kenneth (Melanie) Tschudy, Ted (Sheryl) Tschudy and Marilyn Dehnert (Dave Rasmussen) and Steven’s mother, Mary Sisul.  Nieces, nephews and loving cousins.  Deceased relatives are Janet’s father, Albert Tschudy, Steven’s father, John Sisul, a brother-in-law, Carl Dehnert and a niece, Lindsay Dehnert.

The family would like to thank all the tremendous caregivers who have provided care to her through the years.  You did make a difference in providing the support she needed and in brightening her life!
