Irene L. (Snell) Lippert

Irene Lippert, age 94, passed away at her home in Poy Sippi, WI on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.  She was born May 18, 1927 to Chester L. Snell and Lois (Beck) Snell, the oldest of six – four sisters and one brother.

While growing up, the family moved a few times. One particular place they lived, she had to walk one mile to Bunker Hill School in Waupaca.  She often ended up with blisters on her feet because her shoes were hand-me-downs.  Most of her life was spent in Poy Sippi.  Being the oldest, she did most of the kitchen chores and helped care for the youngest in the family.

Irene married the love of her life, Henry Lippert in Poy Sippi and they built their home across from the farm where she grew up.  Living next door to her Grandma Snell, Irene took care of her for a few years before she was moved to a nursing home.  In her later years, she nursed Henry back to health from his mishaps.

She was a devoted member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Poy Sippi where she taught Sunday School and vacation bible school to preschool and kindergarten children.  She also sang in the church choir for many years. 

Irene enjoyed doing things outside – mowing lawn, gardening and the like.  She would paint one side of the house each year so after four years the entire house would be painted.  She would babysit nieces, nephews, grandchildren and neighbors too.  Irene also liked to crochet and knit, knitting several afghans, giving one to each of her grandchildren.  She loved animals, especially cats, and her current ones were Mattie and Gracie.  Mattie followed her everywhere, slept with her and was her true companion.

Unfortunately, dementia took its toll on her the last couple of years, and she eventually passed away on January 4.

Irene is survived by a son, Bob (Judy); three grandsons: Stacey (Krista), Corey (Connie) and Rob (Renee); 11 great-grandchildren: Katelynn, Brieanne, Josie, Ellie, Caleigh, Lyndsey, Maren, Noah, Andrew, Kolby and Jude; three sisters: Mary Grambsch, June (Ken) LaSure and Shirley (Dennis) Erickson; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Lippert and Joyce Lippert.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; brother, Maurice Snell; sister, Francis Doll; brothers-in-law: Ernest, Albert, Paul, Walter and Ed Lippert and LeRoy Wangerin; sisters-in-law: Hattie Snell, Violet Wangerin, Crystal Lippert, Beatrice Lippert and Maxine Lippert.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Poy Sippi, with Pastor Bryan Fritsch officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Burial will take place in the Brushville Cemetery.  The Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
