Eunice J. (Merrill) Omit, age 93, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023 at the Manawa Community Living Center. Eunice was born Dec. 15, 1929 in Menasha, WI to Lucius and Elmira (Helgeson) Merrill. The family moved to Appleton where Eunice grew up with 4 sisters and 2 brothers. As a young adult, she worked in the Fox Valley as a secretary and as a manager for the former Polly Frock Dress Shop. Eunice married Bert Omit in 1956. They established Omit’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Service in Waupaca, WI where she managed the office for 28 years.
Eunice was creative and interested in fashion at a young age. She was inspired by art and sewing, designing clothing through drawings and turning ideas into sewing projects. Eunice sewed clothing for her children and grandchildren, completed many colorful quilts and clothed many Barbie, Ken, and GI Joe dolls.
Eunice is survived by her children: Rhonda (John) Pearson, Irma, WI; Eric Omit, Waupaca, WI; John (Dawn) Omit, Weyauwega, WI; Barbara (Terry) Omit-Dorshorst, West Salem, WI; grandchildren: Danielle (Tristan) Laszewski, Kaukauna, WI; Stian (Natasha) Pearson, Kaukauna, WI; Allison Omit-Dorshorst, West Salem, WI; great-grandchildren: Paige Laszewski, Liam Pearson, Hardin Pearson. Eunice is further survived by a sister, Donna Mader, Kansas and nieces and nephews. Eunice was preceded in death by her sisters, Marilyn Quella, Virginia Sawyer, Ethel Merrill and her brothers, Robert Merrill and William Merrill.
The Omit family would like to thank the staff at the Manawa Community Living Center and the Thedacare Hospice team that provided personalized, compassionate care for our mother during her final years.
