Edward James Smith

Edward James Smith born August 8th, 1944, age 81, of Waupaca, Wisconsin, passed away in his home on October 26, 2025.

Ed was born and raised in Waupaca WI, the son of Russell and Rose Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse Mary Smith, and his brother Allen Smith. 

He is survived by his children, Thomas Smith (Hedy) of Amherst, Wisconsin; Leah Goodrich of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Cindy Bartlett (James) of Waupaca, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Dillon Smith of Neenah, WI; Presley Bartel of Waupaca, WI; Nathan Goodrich and Zoe Goodrich of Fort Collins, CO; Brigham Smith and Jennings Smith of Amherst, WI; and Hope Bartlett of Waupaca, WI; also great granddaughter Hazel Smith of Neenah, WI. 

Ed was a devoted father, a proud veteran, a dairy farmer, an avid hunter, and a lifelong member of the Waupaca community. He served his country honorably in Okinawa during the Vietnam War and remained deeply committed to his hometown upon returning home. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Waupaca School Board for 13 years, local agricultural organizations including JC Waupaca Chapter and Peterson Mills 4-H chapter. He was a volunteer as well at Mobility for Vets.

As the proud owner of White Star Dairy Farm along with his dad Russell and brother Al, Ed dedicated his life to hard work, family, and the land he loved. He will be remembered as a loyal neighbor, an animal lover, and good friend. 

Ed’s legacy of kindness, service, and community spirit will live on through the many lives he touched.

A private family service will be held.
