Donald R. Hansen

September 10, 1943 ~ July 13, 2023 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Obituary

Donald R. Hansen of Amherst, Wisconsin entered peacefully into eternal life on July 13, 2023 surrounded by family. Don was born on September 10, 1943 to Russell and Lois (Eastman) Hansen of Waupaca, Wisconsin. He graduated from Waupaca High School and went on to work at the Neenah Foundry for a short time. He preferred working outdoors so he and his friend Jack moved to North Dakota to build grain elevators. After a couple years, he moved back to central Wisconsin where he worked for Madison Silos. On October 3rd, 1964, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Pipe in the church where they met. He and Ronald (Whitie) Hotchkiss started their own silo business, H&H Silo Repair in 1977. Whitie unexpectedly passed away a few years later. Don continued to run the business with his sons which operated for over 40 years. Don enjoyed repairing things great and small. If it was difficult, he would ponder on a solution until he fixed it. He loved the challenge but more than that, he loved helping others. He also loved volunteering at church, visiting with friends and family, playing Sheepshead, and fishing, especially in Canada where he was able to travel twice a year for many years. Don also loved Christian music and was fortunate to attend Lifest in Oshkosh, with his daughter-in-law and three granddaughters for the past several years. They also attended numerous concerts to see his favorite band, Casting Crowns. Don's profound faith in God guided him and gave him peace. Don is survived by his wife Elizabeth, children Jeff (Sandra), Gary (Theresa), Paul (Kimberly), Tom (Ahmie), and Lisa; Grandchildren: Ashley, Matthew, Anna, Emily, Jessica, Samantha, Taylor, Tanner (Shelby), Johnathan,  Evangelina; and great-granddaughter, Avery. He is also survived by his sister: Elaine Tarr of Berlin, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Roger, brother-in-law, Bill Tarr, nephew, Jason Yohn and many aunts and uncles.

The Memorial Service will be on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Farmington Lutheran Church, N4414 County Road Q, Waupaca.  The visitation will be on Tuesday at the Maple Crest Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
