Betty Virginia Sullivan McMullen, age 99, of Waupaca, found peace on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. She was born on February 10, 1923 in Frederic, WI, a daughter of the late Charles and Ida Hedlund.
She attended the University of Minnesota where she met her husband, James F. Sullivan, the love of her life. They were married on April 17, 1948 in Minneapolis. She was a registered x-ray technician at Fairview Hospital, supervising the x-ray department and then worked in the Radiation Therapy and Radio-Isotope Department at the University of Minnesota Hospitals.
Mr. Sullivan died February 1, 1970 while waiting to have aortic valve surgery.
On March 17, 1973 she married Raymond McMullen in Milwaukee. They moved from Whitefish Bay to Waupaca in June, 1985. He died May 26, 1987.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence (Lucille), Elmer (Florence) and Harold (Tyra) and special friend, Hal Kartes.
She is survived by her children, Daniel J. Sullivan and Thomas (Diane) Sullivan; grandchildren, James M. (fiancé Allison Miller) Sullivan and Kathryn M. Sullivan. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church of Waupaca, with Fr. Xavier Santiago officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial of cremains will take place at a later time at Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee. The Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Church or the Waupaca Food Pantry.
