Robert Dahms Obituary

Robert B. Dahms, age 86, a resident of the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018.  He was born November 26, 1931 in Plover, WI to the late Bernard and Evelyn (Plante) Dahms.  Robert attended schools in Portage County before entering the U.S. Navy.  He was previously married to Judith Hancock; they resided in Custer where they raised 10 children.  Robert worked as a mechanic, both at home and various businesses throughout his lifetime.  In Robert’s early years, he loved riding motorcycle and racing at Golden Sands, riding his four-wheeler or even the tractor, thus his need to always drive fast.  Robert loved to farm and run the Custer farm with his children.  He gained many lifelong friends through his mechanic jobs and farming operation.

            Survivors include his children: David (Linda) of Custer; Harry (Connie) of Custer, Bruce (Renae) of Custer, Jason (Heather) of Custer, Robert (Dari) of Bancroft; Sandy (Jeff) Uhl of Amherst, Marie (Bill) Looney of AR, Annette (Dale) Kurszewski of Custer, Jorja (Jody) Zoromski of Custer and Peggy (Andrew) Dean of Stevens Point; brother, John (Marilyn) of Madison; sisters: Anita (Fred) Kolanowski of New Berlin and June (David) Bonsack of IL; and special friend: Mary Minton of Waupaca. He is further survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; Judith Hancock and grandchildren, Peter, Ryan and Brandon.

            Robert’s family thanks the staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King for the care and loving attention they devoted to him, particularly Olson Hall 4th floor, Penny, Jody, Paul, Mary and all the staff.  A special thank you to the medical staff at ThedaCare of Appleton and to Heartland Hospice, as they tenderly cared for Robert in his final days.

            Per Robert’s wishes, no visitation will be held.  A service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.  The Maple Crest Funeral Home is assisting the family with this veteran.
