Gerald “Jerry” Gerdin
Of Appleton, age 74, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. He was born in Appleton on July 27, 1943 to the late Stephen and Margaret (Heinemann) Gerdin. Jerry was a proud veteran of the Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne, with 25 jumps. He worked for over 20 years for Kimberly Clark and had worked at Appleton Wire Works and Copps Grocery Store. Jerry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially cribbage.
He will be sadly missed by his children: Jeff (Jan) Gerdin, Jillian (Jim) Berg, Jodi (Pete) Strenn, Jennifer (Michael) Kitten, sisters: Rosemarie Lemmens and Judy Hartzheim, 9 grandchildren, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1 until 5 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Sacred Heart Parish, Appleton, WI. Military honors will be held in the spring at the chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home. Burial will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in King.
We, the family of Jerry, extend a very special thank you to all of the nurses and staff at the Veterans Home for the wonderful care given to our dad, as well as us, especially in the days leading up to his passing. Special thanks to nurse Edna for her friendship and always putting a smile on dad’s face.
