Shirley Caroline Stoltenberg Deer
Shirley was born to eternal life on May 17, 2016. She was born in rural Amherst to William and Stella Stoltenberg on August 26, 1926. Shirley graduated from Amherst High School and attended business school before working for the Civil Aeronautics Administration during World War II in the Carolinas and returned to Wisconsin after the war. She married Phillip Deer of Milwaukee in 1949 and raised daughters, Darla, Sheryl and Vicki. She retired from the LM Barry Company in 1988. She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and an avid volunteer until becoming a resident of Bethany Home in Waupaca in 2013.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Vivian Stoltenberg, husband of 41 years, Phillip, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry and Frances Deer, son-in-law, William Mindel.
Shirley is survived by daughters: Darla (Frank) Hanford, Sheryl Deer (David Haberman), Vicki Deer (Leon Weyant), granddaughter: Jenna Deer, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. Friends and family may gather on Saturday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. An additional memorial service will be held in Milwaukee at a later date.
